Over the weekend, the Riverdale cast members, Lili Reinhart, Camila Mendes, and Madelaine Petsch, gathered for a playful portrayal of the Sanderson sisters from the film Hocus Pocus.
Reinhart shared a photo of the trio on her Instagram on October 30, captioning it with “It’s just a little HOCUS POCUS.”
Actress Madelaine Petsch, known for her role in Hustlers, embodied Winifred (Bette Midler) with a purple slip dress, neon green corset, and a theatrical cape. Camila Mendes channeled Sarah (Kathy Najimy) with a crimson lace-up top and plaid skirt. Their attention to detail extended to their hairstyles, with Petsch humorously showcasing Midler’s gravity-defying curly updo. The Riverdale stars nailed the characters’ looks perfectly.
The Riverdale star, who plays Cheryl Blossom, captioned her photo with a simple “SISTAAAAAS.” Each of them also shared individual photos on their own Instagram accounts, accompanied by clever messages that paid tribute to the comedic horror film released in 1993.
Petsch added a witty reference from the movie in one of her photo captions: “This time, if we encounter a teenager, we will kill it.” The comment section was filled with praise for their ability to make Winifred seductive.
Mendes, who also appears in Revenge and is 28 years old, commended makeup artist Jen Tioseco and hairstylist Matthew Collins on Instagram, expressing, “You understand the challenge.”
The three friends celebrated their elaborate costumes by sharing a video on their shared TikTok account, “blonde brunette redhead.” In the video, they danced and sang along to “I Put a Spell On You” from Hocus Pocus, extending Halloween wishes to their fellow witches.
One viewer even suggested that if a third Hocus Pocus film were to include a flashback scene, the trio should portray the Sanderson sisters during their younger years.
